A Skincare Routine Dos and Don’ts

Our skin is one of the most important and largest organs our body has. It works hard every day to protect our bodies from external and harmful factors. Therefore, every one of us should take care of his/her skin by sticking to a skincare routine so that their skin keeps doing its job better and for a longer period. When talking about a skincare routine, almost everyone has their own personal skincare routine. That doesn’t mean that they all do the right stuff. There are many wrong things people do in their routines, e.g. using too many exfoliating products, popping pimples, or not giving the products enough time to sink in. That is why there are some general rules to follow no matter your skin type. In this article, there are some Dos and Don’ts a person should follow.

Starting with the dos, the most important step and the first as well is Cleansing. It should be cleaned of any dirt, grime, and makeup as they block your skincare products from being absorbed into your skin. After washing your face with water and making sure that it is dry, you can use your cleanser. There are creams and gel cleansers. Cream cleansers are known for being gentler on the skin as they don’t foam while gel cleansers typically provide a much deeper cleanse. Overdoing exfoliate is not good, though exfoliation is the main component of healthy, vibrant skin. Using an exfoliating scrub 2-3 times a week is fair enough.

Another recommended step is not rushing!!  You should take time and slow down when doing a skincare routine. Spend a couple of minutes cleansing, massaging your skin as this will ensure every last bit of make-up has been removed and will help with lymphatic drainage. The last thing you should do is make sure to drink lots of water. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day since it gives you radiant skin.

Moving to Don’ts, avoid sun exposure. Make sure to use sun protection cream before you go outside the house. That’s because needless exposure increases the chance of severe skin damage and causes premature wrinkling and uneven skin coloring. The second thing is to not mix skincare products together. Experts and chemists create cosmetic formulas and they know very well how to balance a product so it doesn’t fall apart, separate, or go bad quickly. Since not all ingredients can come together, it’s safer not to mix products.

Giving up is another thing you shouldn’t do. People often expect to see results right away and when they don’t, they assume skincare isn’t for them or skincare products don’t work. BUT! they are absolutely wrong! You have to give the skincare routine or a certain product at least 6 to 8 weeks so you can determine whether it works for you or not. The last and very important thing you shouldn’t do is forget to moisturize your skin. Find your right type of moisturizer and apply it to your skin on a daily basis. Whether your skin is oily, dry or anything in between, you have to use moisturizer.
