Easy Natural Ways to Get Rid of Under-Eye Bags and Puffiness

Eye bags and puffiness happen when the tissues and muscles around your eyes weaken, forming a pouch. Generally, the main cause behind eye bags is aging. The older we get, the more the skin loses fat padding and collagen, the major component of connective tissues in skin, and grows thinner so veins start to appear through the thin skin around your eyes. Aging is not the only reason since sometimes we notice young people suffer from eye bags and puffiness. Sun exposure is another reason for eye bags as exposure to the sun destroys collagen so it is the best weapon against under-eye circles.

Eye bags aren’t only caused by either aging or sunbathing. Sometimes it’s simply due to genetics. Our genes determine the nature of our skin; what we’ll look like as we age. We inherit the thin skin that tends to show under circles more easily than others. Before looking for remedies, the first step is to identify the cause of your bags. Then, there are many, many routines for getting rid of under-eye bags.

  • Applying tea bags
Teabags are a good choice since they’re affordable, natural options that can be easily tried at home. Caffeinated tea bags can be used under your eye to reduce swelling. They may also help in treating dark eyes, irritation, and pink eyes. You can do it in these simple steps:
  1. Steep two tea bags for 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Let the tea bags chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
  3. Then, squeeze out the extra liquid and apply it to your under-eye area.
  4. apply the tea bags to closed eyes for 10-15 minutes.
  5. repeat as often as needed.

  • A cold compress

Applying a cold compress to the area can help in bringing down swelling. You can find a cold compress at home or you create it yourself. All you need to make it are:

  • ice (or frozen vegetables)
  • washcloth
  • water
  • plastic bag
  • towel

The steps:

Put ice cubes in a plastic bag. We use small vegetables so you can control the bag and it will sit well on your skin, Then, wrap a cold washcloth around the plastic bag of ice. Now place the cold compress on your skin for up to 20 minutes. Don’t forget to dry the area with a towel after you’re done.

Note: you can reapply the compress every two hours, keep doing this until the swelling goes away.

  • Wear sunscreen every day

As mentioned above, sun exposure is one of the reasons for under-eye bags. Therefore, we should protect your skin from the sun’s rays. Wearing sunscreen is one of the solutions that may also help with your under-eye bags and dark circles. Choose a daily face moisturizer that’s also SPF 30 or higher. Besides you can protect yourself from the sun by:
